“It Smells like a Basement” We all know what that smells like, moldy, musty or earthy. The problem is it shouldn’t smell like anything and when it does we shouldn’t be spending any significant time down there.
Unusual odours in the basement are your early warning signs of mold growth, don’t ignore them because it will get worse!
If you can smell mold you should be able to find it.
Water intrusion anywhere in the home left unrepaired whether significant or slight will run downhill until it reaches the lowest point in your home, the basement
- Roof Leaks
- Bathroom Leaks
- Kitchen Leaks
- Window Leaks
- The most common – Foundation cracks and waterproofing failure
The first signs that your foundation waterproofing is beginning to fail are the signs of “efflorescence” the white powdery substance on the inside of the foundation wall. This is the salts and lime being pushed through the concrete by water. It’s not a threat to your health it’s just your early warning sign that you may need your foundation waterproofed soon.
If you can smell mold you should be able to find it. If you can’t find it maybe it’s time to call for a Mold Inspection and possibly and Indoor Air Quality Test before your family’s health is at risk.
